About us

What we do…

We provide a music education and string ensemble experience, tailored to your child’s experience level. Whether they’re just picking up their instrument for the first time, or they’re a seasoned musician, we’ll guide them to furthering their skill as a player and their love of music.

We’ll provide variety in their musical exposure — classical music to learn technique, pops (movie/radio) music for fun, and sacred music to remember where all the Goodness comes from.

Why we do it…

As a homeschool mom and a lifelong musician, I want my kids to have every blessing that music can give, but I couldn’t find something that fit our homeschool lifestyle. Now it’s here—a music education and orchestra experience with a flexible schedule during the day, keeping those precious evening and weekend hours free.

Orchestra has shaped my life since I started playing with the public school system in the 5th grade. Besides being great for developing higher executive function*, increasing academic performance*, reducing stress*, and providing a creative outlet*, music communicates in a universal language deeper than words. It’s a social, shared experience unlike any other.

How we do it…

Through our sign up page you’ll tell us a bit about your child’s experience level and your preferences for class time. At the start of each year, we’ll group the players together by experience level and availability, and assign class times.

Beginner classes will cap at 12 participants, while advanced classes are more fluid. If there are only a few experienced players in a given cycle, or a few for whom the main orchestra time(s) won’t work, those players will be invited to participate in a smaller ensemble such as a trio or quartet.

All ensembles will have a Christmas concert and a spring concert, usually held at the Recital Hall in the Music Building at UNT 415 Avenue C, Denton, TX 76201.

Carma, Director of Denton Homeschool Orchestra

Who we are…

Hi! I’m Carma. I’m a homeschool mom and an orchestral musician who loves to help our youth experience the joy the music has to offer.

I started playing piano in the 4th grade, but my real love is with the viola, which I started in the public school system in the 5th grade here in Denton.

I went on to play in all-region and all-state orchestras, as well as the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra through out my high school years. I earned my BA in music from Brigham Young University where I also played in their top ensembles. I currently perform with the Dallas arm of the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras. I can’t wait to share music with your kids!
